Pregnancy can be very stressful on the body of a mother. The body goes through many changes during a pregnancy, and these changes can cause pain and discomfort in the back and neck. The pelvic area goes through the most amount of stress during a pregnancy and can often be left out of alignment once the delivery process is over. Many mothers utilize chiropractic care to alleviate pain or discomfort, to ease the birthing process and to correct any misalignment that has occurs during childbirth.
Many mothers are unaware of the benefits that they can receive through chiropractic care during pregnancy. Many women go through their pregnancy in immense pain, and attribute it to the growing baby, rendering the pain to be normal. This is simply not true. More and more women are turning to chiropractic treatment as a non-invasive, effective way to ease them through their pregnancy.
The late Larry Webster, D.C., Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), developed a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment which enables chiropractors to establish balance in the pregnant woman’s pelvis. This balanced state in the pelvis has been clinically shown to allow for optimal fetal positioning. The technique is known as the Webster Technique. The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported in the July/August 2002 issue an 82% success rate of babies turning to a head down position when doctors of chiropractic used the Webster Technique. Currently, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recommends women receive chiropractic care throughout pregnancy to establish pelvic balance and optimize the room a baby has for development throughout pregnancy. With a balanced pelvis, babies have a greater chance of moving into the correct position for birth, and the crisis and worry associated with breech and posterior presentations may be avoided altogether. Dr. Robyn Amerman is the only chiropractor in Atlantic county with the Webster’s Certification.
